Humble Inquiry: The Gentle Art of Asking Instead of Telling by Edgar H. Schein

Humble Inquiry explores why it's important to listen deeply, value different perspectives and create environments where everyone feels respected and heard. This book will dive into the following topics of leadership:

• Asking builds relationships.
• People often tell when they should ask. 
• Listening is a leadership skill. 
• Trust is through conversation.
• Humble Inquiry supports psychological safety. 
• Relationships matter as much as results. 
• Power and status affect communication. 
• Good questions are often simple questions. 

How the Book Club Works

• The Leadership Book Club will meet virtually on Zoom
• We will meet every 2 weeks beginning September 25, 2026 at noon ET for 6 sessions to support reflection and real-world application
• Participants will read assigned sections between meetings
• Sessions will include:
  • Guided discussion questions
  • Practical application to IPSE programs and initiatives
  • Peer learning and shared leadership insights

Attendance at every session is encouraged but not required—participants are welcome to attend as many meetings as their schedule allows.
